What is BOTOX?

Reducing the early signs and symptoms of aging skin is safe and effective with BOTOX injections at Evolve Med Spa. BOTOX injectable treatments are also used by younger adults who wish to slow the progression of wrinkles prior to enduring them. Board-certified physician Dr. Tricia Shimer is happy to provide BOTOX injectable treatments to Dallas, TX individuals.

This nonsurgical treatment helps patients to achieve the youthful appearance they desire without surgical intervention or long recoveries. BOTOX is a specialized strain of type A botulinum toxin that temporarily blocks the movements of the facial muscles that work to make certain expressions in the upper brow region. The wrinkles formed from these continuous muscle contractions are referred to as “dynamic” because they are the product of muscle movement. With enough repetition, these expression lines will remain, even when the face is completely at rest. BOTOX injections can dramatically soften the look of these wrinkles by limiting the facial expressions that cause them, allowing the muscles the opportunity to rest and rejuvenate.

What Are The Benefits Of BOTOX?

Over-the-counter creams can only do so much to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and other common signs of aging. BOTOX injections at Evolve Med Spa are a much more direct way to address creases that make you feel self-conscious. Patients enjoy a wide range of benefits when they choose BOTOX in Dallas, TX, including:

  • Dramatic reduction in expression lines and wrinkles
  • Preventative treatment to slow down the aging process
  • Nonsurgical, minimally invasive treatment
  • No downtime or recovery necessary
  • Results that last up to four months or longer with re-treatment
  • More affordable than plastic surgery

Who is a Candidate for BOTOX?

BOTOX injections are great for individuals who want to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on their face. When used as a preventive treatment, wrinkles that have not yet formed can be kept at bay periodically. It's a terrific nonsurgical approach if you have forehead wrinkles or frown lines between the brows. It's also an ideal solution for lines that form around the eyes. If you have deeper lines, a combination of BOTOX and a filler may be more suitable.

What is the Injection Process Like?

Your BOTOX injectable treatments will be performed as an outpatient procedure in one of the treatment rooms at Evolve Med Spa. If it is your first time to visit us in Dallas, TX to get BOTOX, we may perform the treatment on the same appointment as your initial consultation with Dr. Shimer. You will be asked to make a few expressions using the upper face, like frowning, squinting, smiling, etc., which will allow us to determine where the injections are to be placed. This specific injection is most commonly placed by Dr. Shimer between the brows where the number "11" appears, around the eyes (Crow's feet), and along the forehead.

The face will be prepared and BOTOX will be applied using a fine needle, followed with a cool compress to help lessen discomfort, swelling, and bruising. You can request a numbing cream to help make the procedure more comfortable, but it generally is unnecessary. BOTOX injections typically take about 10 – 15 minutes, then you may get back to your usual activities.

What to Expect After BOTOX

After the procedure, you may return to your daily activities, but strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least one day. You will be asked to sleep upright for the first night and to not touch your face, which can accidentally spread the BOTOX to other areas. The treated sections of your face may be slightly bruised, swollen, or red for a few days, but you will not develop any severe or lasting side effects. In most cases, it typically takes about 5 – 7 days before the final results of BOTOX can be seen. The results typically last 3 – 4 months. You can speak to your injector about how often to schedule follow-up injections at Evolve Med Spa to extend your results.

BOTOX FAQs

How many injections/units will I likely need?
The amount of BOTOX required differs according to your personal goals and the extent of your wrinkles. Dr. Shimer can recommend the ideal amount of units based on this information and whether you want to address the brow area, Crow's feet, or forehead. Our team may suggest scheduling BOTOX treatments every 3 – 4 months at Evolve Med Spa to maintain your outcomes.

Can BOTOX be paired with additional cosmetic treatments?
BOTOX pairs well with other options if you have additional anti-aging concerns. If you have deeper and more severe wrinkles and lines, we might suggest incorporating a dermal filler into your treatment plan. We might also perform complementary services, such as PRP with microneedling or facials to further maximize a younger-looking radiant glow.

What's the difference between wrinkle relaxers and fillers?
Though wrinkle relaxers like BOTOX reduce fine creases by temporarily preventing muscle movement, dermal fillers are designed to add more facial volume. Fillers can plump up sunken features and reduce static wrinkles. Our team can discuss whether you would benefit from a filler to complement your BOTOX outcomes.

Are BOTOX injections safe?
BOTOX is an extremely popular and well-tolerated cosmetic treatment that's been performed safely for years. When administered by an expert injector like Dr. Shimer, side effects are rare and typically limited to temporary bruising or swelling at the injection site. Our staff understands the importance of your safety and takes care to ensure that you're pleased with your results.

Do BOTOX results appear natural?
Some people are concerned that BOTOX might create a "frozen" or "pulled" appearance. However, when BOTOX is administered skillfully by a trained professional, the results are more natural-looking than you think. In fact, many of our patients report that they look more rested and refreshed after treatment – not artificial. No one should be able to tell that you've had "work done" unless you tell them.

Which age is best for BOTOX?
There is no specific age that is best for BOTOX. It depends on individual needs and goals. Many people start in their late 20s or early 30s for preventive purposes, while others begin later to address existing wrinkles. During your consultation, Dr. Shimer will assess your skin concerns and help you determine if BOTOX is the right solution for you.
