What is PRP Therapy?

Board-certified physician Dr. Tricia Shimer is excited to perform platelet-rich plasma therapy, also called PRP, to help replenish your appearance. PRP therapy is one of the most sought-after cosmetic procedures in the aesthetic industry because of its natural method and effective results. This treatment at Evolve Med Spa uses a patient's very own plasma to stimulate the skin, minimizing the prevalence of wrinkles. It can be combined with microneedling for the popular Vampire Facial. Evolve Med Spa also uses PRP as a treatment to enhance female sexual health. For more information about PRP therapy, contact our Dallas, TX office to schedule a consultation. How is PRP used?

Vampire Facial: For this procedure, PRP is derived by taking a sample of the patient's blood, which is isolated into platelets. Our technician will use a needle to create many tiny holes on your face and then topically apply the PRP over the facial skin to stimulate collagen growth. The Vampire Facial is excellent for improving skin's texture and smoothing lines and wrinkles for a firmer, younger look.

O-Shot: Ideal candidates for the O-Shot are looking to enhance their sexual health and arousal, or alternatively, treat urinary incontinence. PRP derived from the patient's own blood is injected into a numbed area of the vagina, effectively using the body's own growth factors to activate clitoral and vaginal stimulation. Patients have reported more frequent and stronger orgasms, smoother skin on the vulva, and increased sensation.

Am I A Candidate for PRP Therapy?

Those who would like to improve the tone and texture of their complexion are usually great candidates for a Vampire Facial at Evolve Med Spa. Since it naturally promotes collagen production, it's also a fantastic treatment choice if you have tired or dull-looking skin.

Ideal candidates for the O-Shot have been experiencing painful sexual intercourse, diminished sexual sensation, inability or unlikeliness to have orgasms, and/or want to improve their overall sexual desire. It is also ideal for treating urinary incontinence. Speak with Dr. Shimer if you have certain blood disorders, skin conditions, or anemia to determine whether it's safe for you to undergo PRP therapy.

How Is PRP Therapy Performed?

After you are seated comfortably in one of Evolve Med Spa's private procedure areas, a small amount of blood will be pulled from your arm and put into a centrifuge machine. Usually, we draw around four tablespoons of blood. After about 15 minutes, the components of the blood separate and are then ready to be injected. We will place your rich plasma into a syringe and inject it into the designated areas of the face or body. PRP therapy can take up to 30 minutes, but that can vary on a patient-to-patient basis.

What to Expect after PRP Therapy

Plasma from PRP therapy naturally promotes the production of collagen and elastin to create tighter and younger-looking facial skin. As it uses your own blood, there is no risk of allergic or adverse reactions. You should expect your face to be a little red following PRP therapy as traces of red blood cells will be included in the injection. A cold pack can be applied to the injection area to ease any discomfort or minor swelling. Patients who receive the O-Shot have reported only minor discomfort, such as a mild pinch sensation during the procedure, which should only last briefly. It can take a few days to experience results, which will continue to develop over about three months. Dr. Shimer recommends you receive treatments in 4 – 6-week intervals as maintenance.

PRP Therapy FAQ

How much does PRP therapy cost?
Treatment costs for PRP therapy will be based on the size of the area being treated, as well as if it is combined with another treatment. Your technician will give you an estimated cost during your initial consultation at Evolve Med Spa and discuss payment methods as well as any specials on treatments.

How soon does PRP therapy start working?

The results of PRP therapy will depend on the type of treatment performed, the patient's unique response to treatment, and other individual factors. In some cases, patients may notice an improvement in their complexion after a Vampire Facial within a few days or weeks, while women who receive the O-Shot often report enhanced intimate health even sooner. The full effects of PRP can take several weeks or months to become apparent.

How long do results from PRP therapy last?
PRP therapy has been known to last for up to eight weeks. The results will vary in every patient and depends on where the treatment is used. The benefit of this treatment is that it does not require incisions or significant downtime, plus it is less expensive.

What are the risks and complications of PRP therapy?
Potential risks from PRP therapy when done alone are minor and include only temporary swelling and bruising. If you get PRP therapy with microneedling, possible risks may include mild scarring, delayed healing, and pigmentation changes. That’s why it’s important to have cosmetic treatments performed by a skilled practitioner who has studied the process.

Will PRP help replenish volume?
A treatment of PRP therapy does not add volume in areas like your lips and cheeks. While PRP treatments offer stunning results, since it rejuvenates the appearance of the skin and helps promote the production of collagen and elastin, PRP treatments are not meant to boost volume. If you want to contour areas on your face that have lost volume, then dermal fillers may be a better treatment choice for you.

Is PRP therapy painful?
PRP injections feel like a wrinkle filler or relaxer injection but with the extra step of the plasma extraction. Typically, most patients will feel a little pressure or pinch when the needle pierces the skin. If you are nervous about being uncomfortable, request numbing cream.
